Illinois Man Says Breakup Escalated Into Doxxing, Harassment, and Attempted Swatting
What began as a chance meeting between two neighbors in East Alton, Illinois, eventually turned into a relationship that one man says ended in betrayal, harassment, and a dangerous escalation after the breakup.
Shawn, a 41-year-old Illinois content creator who has also contributed to the sports section at Steady Scope Media, says his relationship with Stephanie, 33, began in late September 2025 after the two connected on the social apps MeetMe and Skout and realized they lived in the same apartment building.
According to Shawn, the relationship moved quickly. After exchanging messages and phone numbers, the two met in person and spent time together at his apartment. Within days, he says, they began discussing the possibility of a serious relationship.
Shawn says the relationship involved several breakups and reconciliations over the months they were together, and that some of the videos he later posted online discussing the relationship were recorded during one of those earlier breakups, before the final split in March.
But Shawn now says the warning signs were there almost immediately.
How They Met
Shawn says he first recognized Stephanie from the social app MeetMe after noticing her several times in the apartment building where they both lived in East Alton.
According to him, he lived on the sixth floor while Stephanie lived directly below him on the fifth.
After connecting online, the two quickly exchanged numbers and began talking more frequently. Soon after, she visited his apartment and the two hooked up for the first time.
Shawn says Stephanie expressed interest in a committed relationship early on, something he says he was also open to.
Looking back, however, he now believes the situation began raising red flags almost immediately.
Early Red Flags
One of the first things that struck Shawn as unusual, he says, was how quickly other residents in the apartment building seemed to know details about their private encounters.
Several people approached him warning him about Stephanie’s reputation, he says. According to Shawn, some residents told him she regularly entertained multiple men in the building.
At the time, Shawn says he dismissed the warnings as gossip.
“She didn’t seem like the person they were describing,” he later said in a video discussing the relationship.
Still, he says it bothered him that people appeared to know details about their personal interactions. When he confronted Stephanie about it, he says she denied sharing that information.
Messages to an Ex
According to Shawn, the first major issue arose shortly after the couple made their relationship official near the end of September 2025.
He says Stephanie visited a park in East Alton where one of her former boyfriends was spending time with his current girlfriend.
Shawn says the man later contacted him directly and sent screenshots of messages between the two.
According to Shawn, the messages showed Stephanie telling the man she still loved him and still had feelings for him while she was already in a new relationship.
He also says the conversation contained flirtatious exchanges and discussions about meeting up.
Screenshots provided by Shawn that he says shows messages sent to him by another individual during the relationship. Identifying details have been partially obscured.

Alleged Pattern of Cheating
Shawn says the issues did not end with one former partner.
Throughout the relationship, he claims Stephanie continued communicating with multiple men through platforms such as Snapchat, TikTok, Facebook, and MeetMe.
According to Shawn, she repeatedly told him these interactions were harmless friendships or part of a social-media community designed to help users grow their online presence.
However, Shawn says screenshots, messages, and information shared by people in her apartment building later convinced him otherwise.
He says he was eventually able to confirm at least two other partners during the relationship and believes there may have been more.
He also claims Stephanie remained active in online dating or singles groups while they were together, including joining a St. Louis-area singles group on Facebook.
In several videos posted online, Shawn outlined what he says was a pattern of cheating throughout the relationship.

The Conflict Goes Public
After the relationship ended on March 7, Shawn says he began speaking publicly about what he believed had happened.
He posted videos online discussing what he describes as dishonesty, manipulation, and repeated infidelity.
According to Shawn, the videos were based on information he gathered after the relationship ended, including messages and conversations he says helped confirm the timeline.
He says Stephanie responded by accusing him of harassment and attempting to obtain a protection order against him.
Shawn says the request was denied.
Illinois law allows courts to issue protective orders in cases involving allegations of harassment, abuse, or threats. Courts evaluate each petition based on whether the conduct described meets legal standards under the law.
According to Shawn, the court did not grant the order requested against him.
The February 14 Messages
Shawn says the situation escalated on February 14 when Stephanie contacted him through TikTok.
According to a screenshot he shared with Steady Scope Media, the message came from an account named “🖕❤️shawnswife1992❤️🖕” with the username @sexytattedbitch and was sent at 10:39 p.m.
In the message, Shawn says Stephanie suggested they speak privately and “stop the madness.” He also says the message indicated she would drop the protection-order attempt if they talked and he stopped posting videos.
Shawn says the two later spent several hours speaking on the phone.

Alleged Doxxing and Harassment
According to Shawn, while they were on the phone, Stephanie was also sharing his information with members of an online community connected to TikTok engagement groups.
He says she first posted his name and social-media page publicly and then shared his information through a Discord-linked group he described as the “Cali Blue family” or a similarly named community.
Soon afterward, Shawn says he began receiving numerous calls from unknown numbers.
He says Stephanie initially admitted to posting his page and name but denied sharing his phone number or address. Later, he says, she denied posting any of the information at all.
Shawn also claims at least one member of the online community later contacted him and confirmed that people had been asked to repeatedly call him.

Attempted Swatting Incident
According to Shawn, the most alarming escalation occurred on or around February 17, when he says a false emergency call was made involving his residence.
The tactic, known as swatting, involves making a false emergency report in hopes of triggering a large police response to someone’s home.
Shawn says the incident did not result in a full tactical police response and describes it as a failed swatting attempt.
Shawn says local police quickly determined the report was not legitimate. According to him, officers later followed up and confirmed that the report did not match the situation at the residence.
At the time, Shawn says he initially believed Stephanie may not have been involved. However, he now believes the incident may have been connected to the alleged online harassment campaign.
He says police are still reviewing details related to the false emergency call.
The Mouthwash Incident
Another incident occurred after the breakup when Stephanie returned some of Shawn’s belongings while accompanied by police.
Shawn says one of the items returned was a bottle of mouthwash.
The following morning, he says he noticed a strong chemical smell when he attempted to use it.
In a social media post describing the moment, he wrote that the smell resembled a cleaning substance, possibly bleach.
Shawn says he did not use the mouthwash and says he is going to have it tested.
At the time of publishing, there has been no confirmed test identifying what was inside the bottle.

A Story Still Unfolding
Shawn says the experience has changed how he views relationships and online interactions.
What began as a fast-moving romance between neighbors, he says, ultimately turned into a situation involving public accusations, online retaliation, and alleged harassment.
Stephanie did not respond to Steady Scope Media’s request for comment prior to publication.
Shawn says he continues cooperating with local authorities regarding the false emergency call and plans to continue speaking publicly about his experience.
“You never think something like this could happen to you,” he said. “But when things start going online, it can spiral fast.”
