Colin Cowherd set off debate by claiming the New York Giants should trade Jaxson Dart and draft Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza. This suggestion applies if they secure the No. 1 overall pick. On The Herd, Cowherd said the move would mirror the Bears’ decision to move on from Justin Fields in favor of Caleb Williams.

Cowherd praised Mendoza, the 6-foot-5½ Hoosier signal-caller. He called him the most polished quarterback in his class and a potential top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Giants fans pushed back hard. Dart has shown steady growth as a dual-threat quarterback. He has posted a 62.5% completion rate with 13 touchdowns and only four interceptions in nine starts. Many believe he’s already trending toward franchise-QB status. Therefore, they think trading him would stall the team’s rebuild.

While Mendoza is viewed as a high-upside prospect, he remains untested at the NFL level. For now, most around the Giants believe New York’s priority should be building around Dart — not starting over.
